Copper Hills hasn't had much luck against Mountain Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will face off against the Sentinels at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Copper Hills comes in on three and Mountain Ridge on 12.
Copper Hills proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Cedar Valley.
Copper Hills got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 24-26, 28-30, 25-20, 15-11.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge faced Herriman in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Sentinels skirted past the Mustangs 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Sentinels have posted since August 23rd.
Mountain Ridge wouldn't go down easily and took Herriman into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 19-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, 17-15.
Mountain Ridge's win came from a few key players Copper Hills will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was McKynlee Miller, who had 27 assists and 11 digs. She has been hot, having posted 14 or more assists the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Ryan, who had 18 digs and two assists.
Copper Hills' record is now 10-17. As for Mountain Ridge, their record now sits at 24-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Copper Hills has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Mountain Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Copper Hills might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Mountain Ridge in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Grizzlies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
