Baseball Recap: Potsdam Comes Up Short

Potsdam blew Massena out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Massena got their revenge. The Sandstoners fell just short of the Red Raiders by a score of 7-5. The Sandstoners' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Nick Roda was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Potsdam's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brandon Bernard, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Potsdam's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-6. As for Massena, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Potsdam will head out to take on Heuvelton Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Massena, they will venture away from home to square off against Plattsburgh at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so the Red Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
