Softball Game Preview: Fredericksburg Christian Eagles vs. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints

Fredericksburg Christian is 0-5 against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Eagles will take on the Saints at 3:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Fredericksburg Christian comes in on three and Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on 16.

Fredericksburg Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Isle of Wight Academy get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 11 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Scarlett Whittaker made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Fredericksburg Christian got a massive performance out of Haylie Johnson, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Johnson has posted since back in March. Rylie Johnson was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nansemond-Suffolk Academy). They were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over Cape Henry Collegiate on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Fredericksburg Christian's record now sits at 13-5. As for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, their record is now 20-4.

Fredericksburg Christian might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Nansemond-Suffolk Academy when the teams last played back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
