Baseball Preview: Norwood-Norfolk Flyers vs. Plattsburgh Hornets

Suggested Video

After both having extra time off, the Norwood-Norfolk Flyers and the Plattsburgh Hornets will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Two weeks ago, Norwood-Norfolk was able to grind out a solid win over Brushton-Moira, taking the game 12-9. The Flyers haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plattsburgh). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Northern Adirondack a 16-0 shutout two weeks ago.

Braeden Calkins and Nate Baker did most of the damage at the plate: Calkins got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Baker went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Scott Gommel was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Plattsburgh kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northern Adirondack only managed two hits.

Norwood-Norfolk might still be hurting after the 20-8 defeat they got from Plattsburgh in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the Flyers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
