Football Game Preview: Granbury Pirates vs. Azle Hornets

Granbury is 0-6 against Azle since August of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Pirates will challenge the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Granbury has given up an average of 37.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Granbury is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They came up short against Richland on Friday, falling 63-40. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 494th, while the Royals are ranked 107th).

Meanwhile, after soaring to 42 points the game before, Azle was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were outmatched by Ryan and fell 44-10. The Hornets have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Azle saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Auston Morgan rushed for 67 yards and one score on only eight carries.

Azle's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Granbury, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Things could have been worse for Granbury, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 28-14 loss to Azle in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Pirates, Hagen Hughes (who rushed for 162 yards and a pair of touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
