Basketball Recap: Maple River Comes Up Short

Maple River suffered their biggest defeat since December 8, 2023 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 84-57 loss at the hands of the Lourdes Eagles. While losing is never fun, Maple River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Lourdes is ranked 112th).

Maple River's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-11. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Lourdes, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maple River will finish 2024 at home by hosting Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Lourdes, they will host Stewartville at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Stewartville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games.
