Basketball Game Preview: Riverdale Raiders vs. Douglass Astros

The Riverdale Raiders will venture away from home to face off against the Douglass Astros at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Riverdale is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.

Riverdale came up short against Luella on Saturday, falling 74-51. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Lions are ranked 94th).

Riverdale's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nigel Favers, who posted 17 points, and Alpha Soumah, who put up ten points and seven assists. Soumah has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Marlon Martin was another key player, going 6 for 14 on his way to 15 points.

Meanwhile, Douglass lost to Jonesboro on the road by a 71-54 margin on Saturday.

Riverdale has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. As for Douglass, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.

Riverdale took a serious blow against Douglass in their previous matchup on January 7th, falling 77-37. Can Riverdale avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
