Softball Recap: Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack vs. Pleasant Grove Eagles
Cosumnes Oaks extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-7 in the process. They fell 6-2 to the Pleasant Grove Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on April 2nd.
Amyah Avila spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Cosumnes Oaks saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Fleishman, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
As for Pleasant Grove, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games.
On Pleasant Grove's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Madeline Lawson gave up just two earned runs on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. Lawson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lila Rooney was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Halverson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Cosumnes Oaks has already played their next matchup, a 5-1 defeat against East Union on the 25th. As for Pleasant Grove, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 7-0 win against Franklin on the 2nd.
