Basketball Game Preview: Durand Railroaders vs. Byron Eagles

After both having extra time off, the Durand Railroaders and the Byron Eagles will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Durand will be strutting in after a victory while Byron will be coming in after a loss.

Two weeks ago, Durand took their match with ease, bagging a 52-18 win over Hill-McCloy.

Samantha Leydig was a one-woman wrecking crew for Durand as she went 7 for 13 on her way to 17 points in addition to six boards and five assists. With that strong performance, Leydig is now averaging an impressive 2.3 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Raine Smith, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds.

Durand smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Byron was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap two weeks ago as they fell 41-36 to Birch Run. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Byron now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Durand, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Everything came up roses for Durand against Byron in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 50-10 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Durand since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
