Baseball Game Preview: Altavista Colonels vs. Gretna Hawks

The Altavista Colonels will take on the Gretna Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Altavista's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Gretna has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.

Altavista will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Appomattox County, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Colonels came out on top against the Raiders by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, while it was Gretna who put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, it was Dan River who put up more. The Hawks lost 9-2 to the Wildcats.

Gretna saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Walden, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Altavista is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Gretna, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

Altavista took their victory against Gretna in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 14-4 score. Will the Colonels repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
