Godwin won the last time they faced Deep Run and things went their way on Friday too. The Eagles skirted past the Wildcats 2-0.

Not much got past Luke Smyers, who gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Deep Run off the board. Smyers has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matthew Hartsfield, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

Godwin is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Deep Run, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Godwin will take on rival Hermitage at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Deep Run is set to face off against their familiar foe Freeman at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3.3, the Mavericks 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
