Baseball Game Preview: Portage Central Mustangs vs. Mattawan Wildcats

Portage Central hasn't had much luck against Mattawan recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m.

Portage Central couldn't beat Harper Creek on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Mustangs took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Beavers. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Portage Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cam Schultz, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. Brody Wallace was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Mattawan got the win against Mt. Pleasant on Saturday by a conclusive 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 16 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Mattawan has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Portage Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-21.
