Preview: Cook Inlet Academy Eagles vs. Birchwood Christian Warriors
Cook Inlet Academy and Birchwood Christian are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. The Cook Inlet Academy Eagles are on the road again on Friday and plays the Birchwood Christian Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on February 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Alaska (Cook Inlet Academy is ranked 105th, while Birchwood Christian is ranked 89th).
Cook Inlet Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They came out on top against Bristol Bay by a score of 45-36. Perhaps unsurprisinly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Meanwhile, Birchwood Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Non Varsity Opponent on Thursday, taking the game 36-28. The victory was just what Birchwood Christian needed coming off of a 50-15 loss in their prior matchup.
Birchwood Christian's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Leia West, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds, and Elise Becker, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Becker has scored all season.
Cook Inlet Academy's record is now 1-14. Birchwood Christian's record now sits at 6-8.
Cook Inlet Academy came up short against Birchwood Christian in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 38-27. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of West, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 22 rebounds. Now that Cook Inlet Academy knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
