Basketball Recap: West Johnston Takes a Loss

After flying high against Smithfield-Selma last Monday, West Johnston came back down to earth. The West Johnston Wildcats were dealt a 75-40 defeat at the hands of the Fike Demons on Wednesday. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Demons: they've now lost eight in a row.

West Johnston's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trinity Perry Moore, who posted 12 points. Jenna Underwood was another key player, putting up nine points and seven rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fike to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamaria Freeman, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and ten boards. Freeman has been hot for a while, having posted 18 or more points the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emory Skinner, who went 8-for-16 on her way to 22 points.

West Johnston's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Fike, the win keeps them at an undefeated 20-0.

West Johnston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-31 defeat against South Johnston on the 13th. As for Fike, they have also already played their next match, a 77-24 victory against Southern Wayne on the 13th.
