Baseball Recap: Strayhorn Drops Season-High Score on Hickory Flat

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Strayhorn). They were the clear victors by a 28-3 margin over the Hickory Flat Rebels on Monday. The win was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won three contests in a row.

Trevor Bateman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Strayhorn is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise. Bateman was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Sanders Sowell was incredible, scoring four runs while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Brister, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

Strayhorn's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hickory Flat, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Strayhorn will have a chance to go back-to-back against Hickory Flat: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
