Football Game Preview: Desert Oasis Diamondbacks vs. Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights

Two dominant signal callers in Akemi Higa and Cheyanne Thornhill are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Desert Oasis Diamondbacks will challenge the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Desert Oasis' favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last six contests.

Desert Oasis is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Las Vegas, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Desert Oasis was ranked third). Desert Oasis breezed by Las Vegas to the tune of 42-14 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Diamondbacks, who have now won seven games by 27 points or more so far this season.

Higa was her usual excellent self, throwing for 236 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.2% of her passes, and also rushing for 108 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. She is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as she's now passed for four or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Akiko Higa, who picked up 157 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Mater Academy East Las Vegas waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Bengals by a score of 18-6. The score was all tied up 6-6 at the break, but the Knights were the (much) better team in the second half.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.0 points per game. As for Desert Oasis, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
