Baseball Game Preview: Trinity Trojans vs. Independence Blue Devils

For the second straight game, Trinity will face off against Independence. The Trojans will face off against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Monday just wasn't the day for Trinity's offense. They lost 25-0 to Independence on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Blue Devils: they've now lost six in a row.

For Independence's part, Sam Crooks was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Crooks has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Crooks is crushing it when it comes to RBI: he's brought in at least three every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Vinny Carriero was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Owen Jenks was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Independence's record is now 6-0. As for Trinity, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
