Football Recap: St. Pius X Falls to the Woodlands Christian Academy in First Game of Season

St. Pius X had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of The Woodlands Christian Academy Warriors on Friday. The Panthers lost against the Warriors in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 36-6 score last time.

Despite the defeat, St. Pius X saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Trey Finney picked up 182 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a pair of TDs on the ground. Finney's longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards. Noah Carrasco was another key player, having thrown for 298 yards and two touchdowns.

Santiago Fernandez Villarreal was a one-man wrecking crew For The Woodlands Christian Academy. as he threw for 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 70 yards. Julio Fernandez Villarreal was Santiago's top target, picking up 87 receiving yards and one score.

Looking ahead, St. Pius X will face off against Kelly Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for The Woodlands Christian Academy, they will challenge East Bernard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
