Softball Recap: Highland's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Highland dropped their record down to 14-9 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 12-1 to the Munster Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-0 back in April.

Highland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Waldron, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Munster, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

On Munster's side, Kaylee O'Connell made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. O'Connell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double.

In other batting news, Maddy Marlowe was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cali Rybicki, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Highland has already played their next contest (against Chesterton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Munster, they will square off against New Palestine at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Mustangs have won five straight at home, while the Dragons won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
