Baseball Game Preview: McMichael Phoenix vs. Rockingham County Cougars

The McMichael Phoenix will take on the Rockingham County Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

McMichael will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Morehead, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Phoenix came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 8-3 on Friday.

Meanwhile, Rockingham County entered their tilt with High Point Central on Tuesday with 13 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 14. They were the clear victors by a 21-4 margin over the Bison. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Hudson Deel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Bognar, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Deel wasn't the only one making solid contact: Rockingham County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive contests.

Rockingham County's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for McMichael, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
