Football Recap: Newberry Takes a Loss

Newberry lost against Hawthorne back in August of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Panthers lost 32-7 to the Hornets. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Hornets are ranked 33rd).

Hawthorne found their leader in sophomore Richard Roundtree Jr, who threw for 301 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. Darian Bowie was Roundtree Jr's top target, picking up 113 receiving yards and one score.

Newberry's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Hawthorne, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newberry will face off against Vanguard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hawthorne, they will challenge Florida State University High School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
