Softball Game Preview: Dos Pueblos Chargers vs. Santa Barbara Dons

For the second straight game, Dos Pueblos will face off against Santa Barbara. The Chargers will host the Dons at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dos Pueblos has four straight victories, Santa Barbara has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Dos Pueblos is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Santa Barbara an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that win, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Juliana Brunner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Anastasia Brunner and Brooklyn Hedricks did most of the damage at the plate: Anastasia went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Hedricks went 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Hedricks has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Esme Mazurkiewicz, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Dos Pueblos hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Dos Pueblos' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Barbara, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
