Softball Recap: Petoskey Wins Going Away Against Big Rapids

Petoskey never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Big Rapids Cardinals. The Northmen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

Bre VerCautren made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Cora Howard was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Addisynn Segraves was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Petoskey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The last time their batting average was this high was in their last ten matches.

The victory made it two in a row for Petoskey and bumps their season record up to 24-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Big Rapids, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11-1.

Petoskey will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cardinals: the pair will be back at it again later today.
