Softball Recap: El Modena Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Canyon

El Modena faced Canyon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Vanguards came up short against the Comanches, falling 8-1. The Vanguards were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Comanches earlier this season, when they won 4-0.

Kaitlyn Galasso was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

This is the second loss in a row for El Modena and nudges their season record down to 16-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 14-9 Cypress (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 67.5% over those games). As for Canyon, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-7.

Coincidentally, El Modena and Canyon will both be playing Cypress the next time they take the field. The Vanguards will head out to face the Centurions at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Comanches will head out to face them at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
