Basketball Recap: Gateway's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

After flying high against Albert Gallatin last Tuesday, Gateway came back down to earth. The Gateway Gators received a blow on Friday as they fell 75-60 to the Uniontown Red Raiders. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), the Gators still had to take the loss.

Uniontown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tori Grooms led the charge by going 6 for 10 on his way to 19 points and three steals. Grooms' evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Calvin Winfrey, who went 8 of 16 en route to 21 points and seven rebounds.

Gateway moved to 8-8 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Uniontown, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-3.

Gateway will be playing in front of their home fans against Penn-Trafford at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Uniontown, they will take on Laurel Highlands at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Laurel Highlands: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Uniontown has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
