The False River Gators are taking a road trip to take on the East Iberville Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. False River has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with eight straight defeats, while East Iberville will come in with three straight wins.
On Thursday, False River came up short against Liberty Magnet and fell 6-3.
Cruz Pourciau made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Gradfeo, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when East Iberville faced off against McKinley on Thursday. East Iberville was the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over McKinley. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Cort Willis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, Colton Melancon was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. East Iberville is undefeated when Melancon posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Kade Cantrelle was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
East Iberville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2024.
East Iberville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for False River, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. False River has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like East Iberville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
