Softball Game Preview: Sherrard Tigers vs. Princeton Tigers

Sherrard will face off against Princeton at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sherrard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Sherrard didn't have quite enough to beat Rockridge and fell 6-5. The loss was the Tigers' first of the season.

Makensie Westfall was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one double. Nadia Anderson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Princeton). They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Newman Central Catholic on Thursday.

Princeton got a massive performance out of Keely Lawson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Keutzer, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Princeton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

Having lost for the first time this season, Sherrard fell to 8-1. As for Princeton, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Princeton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sherrard has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Princeton, though, as they've been averaging 12.2 hits. Given Sherrard's sizable advantage in that area, Princeton will need to find a way to close that gap.

Sherrard skirted past Princeton 7-6 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will Sherrard repeat their success, or does Princeton has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
