Basketball Recap: Cameron Hammond's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southaven over Oakhaven

Southaven suffered their closest defeat since January 14th on Monday. They fell just short of the Oakhaven Hawks by a score of 46-44. The loss put an end to the Chargers' undefeated start to the season.

Southaven's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Hammond, who posted 11 points. Hammond is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Marquise Rice Jr, who earned ten points.

Ayden Deener had an outrageously good game for Oakhaven as he had 21 points. Those 21 points gave Deener a new career-high. Aamyr Deener was another key player, putting up seven points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Southaven fell to 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southaven will host DeSoto Central at 7:30 p.m. on December 2. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oakhaven, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Soulsville at 7:00 p.m. on December 2.
