Basketball Recap: Venus Comes Up Short

Venus and Roosevelt squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Venus had to settle for second. They fell 58-47 to the Roosevelt Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 724th, while the Mustangs are ranked 290th).

Roosevelt's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devaje Jackson, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 22 points. Jackson is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

Venus has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 14-18 record this season. As for Roosevelt, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-15 record this season.

Venus does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Roosevelt, they will head out on the road to face off against Sanger at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Roosevelt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season.
