Basketball Game Preview: Liberty Mountaineers vs. Lewis County Minutemen

Liberty is 0-10 against Lewis County since December of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. The Liberty Mountaineers will host the Lewis County Minutemen at 12:00 p.m.

Liberty is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Wednesday. They were beaten by East Fairmont 92-20. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Bees are ranked 16th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lewis County). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat North Marion 79-42. The Minutemen have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.

The victory (which was Lewis County's third in a row) raised their record to 11-8. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.7 points. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 1-16.

Liberty took a serious blow against Lewis County in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 69-42. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Lewis County's Ella Pinkney, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
