League recap: Brown races to league-leading run for Rio Linda

Capital Valley Conference recap November 19, 2013

Rio Linda's Marcel Brown recorded the longest rushing play in Capital Valley Conference this season in his game against Antelope last week. Brown ran for 73 yards on the play and finished with 116 on the day as his team topped the Titans.

Mason Stahley and Erik Bloomquist provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Pacheco. The connection was good for 79 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.

Christian Brothers's dynamic duo of Chris Guillen and Bloomquist proved tough for the Panthers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Guillen threw for 241 yards and 1 touchdown and Bloomquist had 127 yards receiving. Hayden Jones helped Christian Brothers' passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 86 yards.

Brendan Gormley made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Falcons defeated Pacheco. The 6-foot-3 senior nabbed 1 interception, forced 2 fumbles and racked up 1 sack.

6-foot-0 quarterback Peyton Wilfley of Casa Roble is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2,654. He has also thrown 28 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Justin Holmes. The Oakmont star has 55 catches for 822 yards.

Christian Brothers moved up to 164 from 241 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. George Petrissans' team climbed the ranks as a result of beating David Snapp's team 54-20.
