Baseball Recap: Laurel Takes a Loss

After flying high against Northwestern last Wednesday, Laurel came back down to earth. The Spartans lost 30-8 to the Flowers Jaguars on Thursday.

Luis Bartuano-Hernandez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Bartuano-Hernandez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of CJ DeTurris, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Laurel's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Flowers, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Laurel is set to square off against their familiar foe DuVal on Saturday. Meanwhile, Flowers will challenge rival Northwestern at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
