Baseball Recap: Classical Gets the Win

Classical posted their closest win since April 30, 2025 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the North Smithfield Northmen 2-1. For the Lady Purple/Athena, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Northmen walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2025.

Eli Ozbek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Classical is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Classical saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hubert Matos, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Classical has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for North Smithfield, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Classical will challenge rival Davies Career & Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, North Smithfield is set to face off against their familiar foe Scituate at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
