Softball Game Preview: Nipomo Titans vs. Santa Maria Saints

Nipomo has gone 9-1 against Santa Maria recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Titans will host the Saints at 4:30 p.m. Nipomo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Santa Maria's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Nipomo hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Titans' pitcher stepped up to hand Santa Ynez a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Alyssa Van Muysen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.

In other batting news, Mariah Valdivia was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Allison Robles was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

Nipomo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Santa Maria's offense. They lost 15-0 to San Luis Obispo on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Saints in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost five in a row.

Nipomo pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Santa Maria, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Nipomo took their victory against Santa Maria in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 15-1 score. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
