Basketball Game Preview: Adams Central Patriots vs. Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals

Having just played yesterday, the Adams Central Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Adams Central is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Adams Central came up into this matchup off a tough 20-point loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Northwest by a score of 62-60 on Friday.

Despite the defeat, Adams Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hunter Nepple posted 24 points. Nepple's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Austin Vontz was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Meanwhile, everything went Doniphan-Trumbull's way against Gibbon on Friday as Doniphan-Trumbull made off with a 74-51 victory. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 22 points or more this season.

Doniphan-Trumbull has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Adams Central, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Adams Central came up short against Doniphan-Trumbull in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 61-52. Can Adams Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
