Football Game Preview: Bullard Panthers vs. Carthage Bulldogs

Bullard hasn't had much luck against Carthage recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers will host the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Bullard has given up an average of 33.9 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Bullard ended up a good deal behind Center and lost 44-27.

Despite the defeat, Bullard got top-tier performance from Micah Skaggs, who threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per attempt, and also punched in one score on the ground. Luke Stegall helped Skaggs out on the ground, rushing for 117 yards.

Meanwhile, Carthage put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 61-56 W against Athens. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Hornets are ranked 219th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carthage's win came from a few key players Bullard will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kj Edwards, who rushed for 174 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per carry, and also picked up 69 receiving yards and one touchdown. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Jett Surratt, who threw for 291 yards and three TDs while completing 74.1% of his passes.

Carthage's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Bullard, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
