Baseball Game Preview: Bowie Volunteers vs. Arlington Colts

For the second straight game, Bowie will face off against Arlington. The Volunteers will take on the Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bowie's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Arlington's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bowie fell victim to Arlington and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Colts, falling 7-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Volunteers in their meetings with the Colts: they've now lost nine in a row.

For Arlington's part, Danny Bustamante was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.2 innings pitched. Bustamante has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gannon Howard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

The win (which was Arlington's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Bowie, their loss dropped their record down to 18-7.
