Softball Game Preview: Mira Loma Matadors vs. Wheatland Pirates

The Mira Loma Matadors will face off against the Wheatland Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mira Loma has struggled recently with eight losses in a row, while Wheatland will arrive with five straight wins.

Mira Loma fell victim to Bear River and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Bruins, falling 15-0.

Meanwhile, while Wheatland put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Lincoln. The Pirates blew past the Fighting Zebras 20-0. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Chasidy Sills made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Sills was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Wheatland got a massive performance out of Tatum Sousa, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Sousa a new career-high in RBI (three). Sophia Logan was another key player, scoring four runs while going 4-for-4.

Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .568. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in nine consecutive contests.

Wheatland pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Mira Loma, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
