Basketball Recap: Ygnacio Valley Takes a Loss

Ygnacio Valley was the 59-50 winner over Alhambra when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Ygnacio Valley Wolves fell 55-42 to the Alhambra Bulldogs on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 816th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 228th).

Despite the loss, Ygnacio Valley still got an impressive performance from Sa'Rye Starks, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. That was a full 50% of Ygnacio Valley's points, marking the 15th time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Lanasia Sipp was another key player, putting up four points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Ygnacio Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Alhambra, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ygnacio Valley will welcome Benicia at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Alhambra has already played their next game (against Concord), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
