Baseball Recap: Merrillville Comes Up Short

Merrillville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 19-2 to the Portage Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 last Tuesday.

Merrillville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Aguayo, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. James Wood also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Merrillville's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Portage, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Merrillville will square off against Kankakee Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Portage, they will take on Washington Township at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
