Softball Game Preview: Fremont Eagles vs. Lakeland Lakers

The Fremont Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Lakeland Lakers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fremont has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Garrett hit Fremont with a 11-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Railroaders, falling 17-2. The Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Emma Creager was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Lakeland came up short against Concord on Saturday and fell 8-4. The Lakers haven't had much luck with the Minutemen recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Lakeland got a big performance out of Rylee Amsden, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Kylee Waldron was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Fremont's record now sits at 8-10. As for Lakeland, their record is now 5-13.

Lakeland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fremont has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Lakeland, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Fremont's sizable advantage in that area, the Lakers will need to find a way to close that gap.

Fremont couldn't quite get it done against Lakeland when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
