Moapa Valley fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against The Meadows School on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 5-4. While the Pirates didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Mustangs 4-0 in the first period.

Lachlan Stephenson was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent over his last five contests. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lucas Pettingill made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Mojave fell victim to Chaparral and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Cowboys, falling 15-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Rattlers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Mojave's defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Moapa Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
