Basketball Recap: Provo Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Provo can now relate to. They fell just short of the Dixie Flyers by a score of 66-63 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since December 1, 2023.

Despite the loss, Provo still got an impressive performance from Sutton Villa, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 20 rebounds. Villa is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Naomi Martinez was another key player, going 6-for-13 on her way to 15 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Provo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since the start of last season.

Provo's loss dropped their record down to 21-4. As for Dixie, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season.

Provo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dixie, they and Ridgeline will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Ridgeline sitting on 26 straight victories and Dixie on four.
