Baseball Recap: Navajo Pine Comes Up Short

Navajo Pine extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 19 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-12. They came up short against the Northwest Falcons, falling 16-6. Warriors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Falcons since Tuesday.

Joshua Martinez and Kaidyn Nez did some serious damage despite the final result: Martinez went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run, while Nez went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Makaylee Poyer also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

As for Northwest, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Northwest's side, they got a massive performance out of Keaton Begaye, who went 1-for-4 with 20 RBI, two runs, and one double. The Falcons are 4-2 when Begaye posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kyden Johnson, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Northwest beat Navajo Pine by a score of 11-7 later that day.
