Basketball Game Preview: Emanuel County Institute Bulldogs vs. Screven County Gamecocks

The Emanuel County Institute Bulldogs will square off against the Screven County Gamecocks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Emanuel County Institute is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 69-17, which was the final score in Emanuel County Institute's tilt against Savannah on Friday. The game marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 35-35 at halftime, Screven County was not quite Burke County's equal in the second half on Saturday. They fell just short of the Bears by a score of 77-74. The Gamecocks haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Emanuel County Institute will need focus on slowing down Rodney Beckworth, one of several Screven County players who made an impact when they last played. He went 6 of 8 on his way to 13 points. Beckworth is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was LeVez Roper, who posted 23 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Screven County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Screven County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-8. As for Emanuel County Institute, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

Emanuel County Institute came up short against Screven County when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 73-64. Can Emanuel County Institute avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
