Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Mountaineers vs. Fair Grove Eagles

The Mt. Vernon Mountaineers will face off against the Fair Grove Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Mt. Vernon is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Marshfield just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 42-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bluejays. The contest marked the Mountaineers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Fair Grove humbled El Dorado Springs with a 68-34 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 34 points or more this season.

Fair Grove has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Mt. Vernon lost to Fair Grove on the road by a decisive 64-48 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Mt. Vernon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
