Baseball Game Preview: Castle Park Trojans vs. Woodland Christian Cardinals

The Castle Park Trojans will be taking part in a tournament against the Woodland Christian Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Castle Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Castle Park was handed a eight-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over Crawford. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Colts: they've now won four in a row.

Xavier Melendrez was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Lawrence Nellis, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Woodland Christian never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Rio Vista with a sharp 12-0 victory. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Woodland Christian let Parker Howald and Owen Tessier run wild. Howald scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Tessier scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Tessier also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Jayden Badhesha was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Woodland Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rio Vista struck out 11 times.

Woodland Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. The victory got Castle Park back to even at 4-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Castle Park has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game.
