Volleyball Recap: Serena Huskers vs. Newark Norsemen

Serena lost against Newark last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Huskers fell just short of the Norsemen by a score of 2-1.

Anna Hjerpe paced Serena's offense, picking up 11 kills. Hjerpe got some help from Rebekah Shugrue and her 21 assists. Shugrue was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Newark can attribute much of their success to Morgan Hergenhahn, who had 13 digs and two aces. Hergenhahn is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Serena's loss dropped their record down to 14-7-1. As for Newark, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season.

Serena and Newark should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Huskers will square off against Indian Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (322 vs. 668). Meanwhile, Newark (ranked 106th) will meet Hinckley-Big Rock (ranked 608th) at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
