Softball Preview: Smiths Station Panthers vs. Beulah Bobcats
A feisty cat fight will be fought as Smiths Station Panthers challenge Beulah Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Smiths Station not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2024. They blew past Glenwood 9-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Beulah posted their closest victory since May 9, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-12 win over Glenwood. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
Maci Wingo made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 5.1 innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in five of her seven plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kyleigh Morgan was incredible, going 3-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Tapley, who scored three runs.
Beulah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.4.
Beulah now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Smiths Station, their record is now 4-10-1.
