Basketball Game Preview: Heritage Hawks vs. St. Mary's Academy Bobcats

Heritage is 5-0 against St. Mary's Academy since January of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Heritage Hawks will square off against the St. Mary's Academy Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. Heritage is coming into the contest hot, having won their last ten games.

Heritage is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Atlanta Jewish Academy: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Heritage blew Atlanta Jewish Academy out of the water with an 82-21 final score. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 34 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Barron Ofosu-Kwarteng, who went 11 for 17 on his way to 22 points along with six boards and six steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of MaKari Townsend, who went 5 of 6 en route to 11 points.

Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Mary's Academy). Everything went their way against Holy Spirit Prep on Tuesday as St. Mary's Academy made off with a 69-49 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.

Heritage has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.4 points per game. As for St. Mary's Academy, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.

Everything came up roses for Heritage against St. Mary's Academy in their previous matchup on January 7th, as the squad secured an 81-32 victory. In that match, Heritage amassed a halftime lead of 53-10, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
